What would be a good example of a fundraier for Front Steps, organization which gives affordable housing to those in need.

you might have a car wash with some of the people your helping involved
you could have the fundraiser at a homeless shelter if everyone there is cool with it
contact the media and go around to local businesses asking for whatever kind of donation they are willing to offer and let them know they will be mentioned at an appreciation ceremony with the media present. Businesses love the free, or minimal expense advertisement like that.
My wife has had a spaghetti dinner at a local VFW for one of her friends with cancer at work. That's how she went about it. Used the local businesses and media. It was greatly appreciated by her friend and was good for the community to get involved helping.
