LABOR - Castor Oil Induction Success Stories?
I know I will probably get a lot of negative feedback on here from people even though I ask; please no negative feedback as this is recommended by my midwife.
I've read up on many stories but I'd like to here some in like a timeline form. What time did you take it? How long after were you running to the toilet?
How long after that were you feeling your first contractions?
When did you reach the hospital?
How long after all this did you have your little one?
Thank you for all the posters who genuinely answer this.

I never took it. I was going to try it but I had looked it up online to see if it would be a good idea or not and a lot of it was negative.
Basically, when the baby is ready to show itself to the world, it will do it. =]
I read that Castor Oil makes you so very sick and you're stuck on the toilet for hours and hours so you'd want to stay home the day you take it.
It helped for some women and others it didn't do anything. Some sort of tea helps with contractions and walking definitely helps the process!

I'm curious how much your sister took, Pink.
I know some people say it works, some say it doesn't. Either way, it seems to show an amazing lack of patience when we're rushing to induce because of perceived pressure from others, or real pressure from our doctors that our uterus will spontaneous stop supporting a baby and its growth at 40 weeks.
Does that answer your question? Not really. But I probably wouldn't take it, just because it's hard to regulate such a thing and whether it's really working at all. That said, I have heard of midwives use it - BUT not chugging it to the point where you're puking/pooping for hours, that's for sure.
Just be patient and try and enjoy this pregnancy, because like Pink said, you won't be pregnant forever. Letting things take their course is no doubt gentler on your body and the baby's, that's for sure!

(while this may not pertain to you, studies have shown that inductions can lead to increased rates of cesareans in first-time mothers.) - 1 decade ago
Here's a genuine answer!
At 38 weeks my sister took this - it gave her extremely violent contractions - it put my niece in fetal distress which caused her to pass meconium prior to delivery
She spent 8 days in the NICU - 4 of those days were spent on a breathing ventilator and we didn't think she was going to make it through the night!
"The authors of the review conclude:
Castor oil does appear to stimulate uterine activity although the mechanism remains unclear. No healthcare professional would consider administering an unknown quantity of prostaglandins or not monitoring mother or fetus after attempting to stimulate labour. Yet this is.. what occurs when women are advised to take castor oil. Uncontrolled uterine activity can occur... Hyperstimulation can lead to fetal distress and the passage of meconium which increases the risk of intervention"

Is this REALLY what you want for your newborn?
