Solve the simultaneous equations! PLEASE HELP!?
Solve the simultaneous equations
2y + 3x = 6,
x = 4y + 16.
Answer is: x = 4 y = –3
But I need a step by step answer on how i got x=4 and y=-3
Thanks!!

2y + 3x = 6
-4y + x = 16
now, multiply the top equation by 2, so you can cancel out the y and get what x equals.
4y + 6x = 12
-4y + x = 16
add the equations and solve for x
0 + 7x = 28
x=28/7
x=4
Now plug in x to one of the equations to get y
(plugged into the top original equation you wrote)
2y + 3(4) = 6
solve for y
2y + 12 = 6
2y = 6-12
2y = -6
y=-6/2
y= -3
I hope this helps!

2y + 3x = 6
x = 4y + 16
goes to
3x + 2y = 6
x - 4y = 16
Multiply eq. 1 by 2, and add the equations:
6x + 4y = 12
+ x - 4y = 16
-------------------
7x + 0 = 28
x = 28/7 = 4
Plug back into 1 of the original equations:
2y+3x=6
2y+3(4)=6
2y+12=6
2y=6-12=-6
2y=-6
y=-6/2
y=-3
You are correct!

3x + 2y = 6
x - 4y = 16
6x + 4y = 12
x - 4y = 16----ADD
7x = 28
x = 4
12 + 2y = 6
2y = - 6
y = - 3
x = 4 , y = - 3

since you have an equation for x, plug that into the first equation every time you see an x
2y + 3(4y+16)=6 plug in equation for x
....2y+12y+48=6 add like terms
.........14y+48=6 subtract each side by 48
...............-48-48
...............14y=-42 divide both sides by 14
...............-----.,-----
................14....14
..................y=-3
now that you have a value for y, plug that into one of the original equation and solve for x!
x = 4y + 16
x = 4(-3)+16
x = -12 + 16
x = 4
