How do you get permission from an artist to use their songs for a video?

And how do you prove to youtube that you have permission?

You will probably need a lawyer and provide a contract with the specifics of the use of the music you choose. The copyright holder has complete control over how their products are used.

Chances are you will not get permission. Especially if you want to use something from someone high up in the charts.

You should check out websites that contain royalty free music.

You can also cover a song providing you're not out to make money from it.

Source(s): I've been researching this recently as I'm planning a few youtube videos and may need music for them.
