Building a steel home?
We are looking at our options for building an inexpensive home. We have seen advertisements for the steel home kits, but are unsure of how to do something like that. We want to spend our money on several acres and building a large home, without a lot of frills. If you have done this before, can you tell me if it saves much money, compared to building a traditional home? What problems should we be aware of? Energy efficiency? Durability? Any information from somebody with experience in this area is appreciated.

I have put a steel roof on my house and it worked out very well. My understanding is that using steel frames is about 10% more expensive than wood construction. It's also harder to find people who will even consider doing it (because they can't use cheap illegals to do the grunt work).
- Energy efficiency
No real difference.
- Durability
No termite problems for sure, although there is bamboo lumber which is no edible by termites.

i always wanted to put up a large pole building or quanset hut, and then park my 5th wheel or motorhome inside of it. I havent done that yet though.
our local D.O.T. has been erecting large plastic "tents" to house their equptment around here. They look very well made and nice though.
