What does Archive attribute mean in computer files ?

I know what the 'Read Only' attribute does...but what difference does it make having the Archive attribute set ?

If I copy the computer file to my BlackBerry Torch, does the Archive attribute make any difference there as well ?

The Archive attribute is a flag that can be read by the system or other programs. It is almost always used to show if the file has been backed up or not. A brand-new file will have the Archive attribute set. Backup programs can be configured to clear the Archive attribute when the file is backed up.

Makes no difference to anything else.
