French Motoring law - Spare Bulbs?

Hi, I understand that one of the laws for driving in France is that you must carry a spare set of bulbs.

My friends car is a Nissan Note and the bulbs cannot be changed without taking the car into a dealership, therefore making the carrying of spare bulbs a pointless task.

Can anyone clarify what the legal position is here?

Still have to have them so that a motoring organisation can come out to change them - it is still illegal in any country to drive without the required lights and spare bulbs in some and not being able to change them yourself is not an excuse to get round the law

The headlights may be a workshop job particularly if Xenons. Things like tail ,stop and indicator lights rarely are. Anyway its the law... Nissan will probably sell a spares kit (they sell the Note in France too) or failing that just buy a spare bulb kit from halfords which looks about right and carry that. The police are not going to dismantle your lights to see if the bulbs fit. I have driven in france a lot and have never been asked about this, but be extra careful about inspecting for failed bulbs and fixing them when there. You don't want to give the French police an excuse to stop you.

It's also a requirement to have a hi-viz vest for eveyone in the car. I don't think they prosecute much on these laws. Have a few spare bulbs in a box - if they aren't needed, they aren't needed.

What's this bullshine about the bulbs not being changeable? Ridiculous!
