How do you know if someone is an ex-SEAL?
With all the publicity surrounding the recent mission to get Osama bin Laden and the involvement of Navy SEALs, I've been wondering: Is there any way for an ordinary person to verify whether someone who claims to be an ex-SEAL really was one? Something quick and online would be best (enter a name, get a yes or no answer), or, barring that, maybe a place that can answer the question by postal mail or telephone. It seems that there are 1000 fake ex-SEALs out there for every real one.
How would I know if a BUD is valid or how would I know which hotels are visible? It would have to be something that is easy to verify, hard to fake, and impossible to learn without having actually been a SEAL. Like you can check if someone's a pilot just by going to the FAA's online registry and looking.

Easiest way would be to ask for their BUD/s Class number. If they can shoot a number off in less than 5 seconds they are probably telling the truth. If the person gives you the deer in the headlights face, they are most likely lying.

They won't brag about it. Real operators are quiet professionals.
As another answerer pointed out, asking them their BUD/S class number is a good way to weed out fakes. Asking them to name the hotels you can see from SEAL Beach also works.

If you see them walking on water its a clue but usually Navy seals dont sleep, they wait

To determine if one is a Navy SEAL you must observe their digestive and urinary system. If one the person you are observing eats regular food he is not a SEAL for SEALs eat concertina wire. Observe their urinary system, if the urine is regular they are not a SEAL for SEALs piss napalm. Hope this helps :)

You can surgically alter their flippers and teach them to act human, but there's no hiding their love of herring.

Trust me youll know if the guy was an ex seal once you see him in person. those guys are rough in a good way and are all muscle.
