Is there a difference between...?
boxing with lateral movement, and running away? People are saying that Pac was frustrated with Shane "boxing"? I thought Shane was running away and avoiding exchanges. Boxing, lateral movement and ring generalship entails (to me) changing your position to favor you in exchanges, and taking advantage of your opponents aggression with counterpunching (a la Money Mayweather). Running away and avoiding exchanges is backpedaling and when your opponent attacks, you get out of striking distance some more without counterpunching or intent to do damage, solely with the intent of being out of position so your opponent can't hurt you (a la ODLH against Trinidad, Cotto and Mosley against Pac). Mosley only throw 300 punches against Pac, now is that really "effective boxing" or is that avoiding exchanges? When Pac was getting frustrated, was he frustrated that he was being countered all night by a guy who was masterfully boxing? Or was he frustrated that his opponent had absolutely no intent to fight?

Nepster know one is saying that Mosley outboxed Pacquiao but he TRIED to outbox him.Shane just can't pull the trigger anymore. The fight was ridiculed from the start and we saw the reason why.Mosley just never followed the script to let Pacquiao be the first man to KO him.The point i was making was that Pacquiao became confused and frustrated trying to hit a moving target so imagine him trying to hit the most elusive fighter in the sport. Are you saying 39 year old Mosley running away will be more elusive than Mayweather's style
Pacquiao still manged to stop Cotto when he went on the back foot!

Obviously Mosley was not effectively boxing, why else would he avoid anything that was close to exchanging punches with Manny? Mosley was just trying to avoid getting knocked out taking only what he figured was a grantee shot or doing the bare minimum to get by without having the fight stopped. Shane was a great fighter once but after watching him just do what ever he had to just to last the full distance I really hope this will be the last time this future hall fame fighter steps in the boxing with gloves on, but I am sure he will continue.....

What Shane Mosley did is to be the fighter that he wasn't. That is not the Shane Mosley that we knew. He knew that his only chance to beat Manny was to land a haymaker but unfortunately Manny Pacquiao didn't allow him. Shane is not boxing, he is running especially after the knock down on the third round. The whole fight, he was waiting to hit Manny with a punch that will rock him but his every connections was answered with more punishment to him. If there is a success in Mosley fight is that making the fight as boring as it could be.

Shane Mosley looked like a soldier trapped in the jungle, he was just trying to survive, and after he got a taste of Manny's power (which is very real) he understood that if he continued to encourage the exchange he'd be knocked out.
Was it lateral movement, yeah, at the same time lets not confuse lateral movement with effective Boxing, because you can use lateral movement with no intention of Boxing and that's what Mosley was doing. He hadn't been hurt in years and I think once he finally got hurt he went into panic mode and just looked to survive.
In all seriousness without being disrespectful to Shane Mosley who I feel doesn't get enough respect he's had more than enough time to redeem himself prove the naysayers wrong. He got walked down and beat up by the smaller Floyd Mayweather, he struggled with Sergio Mora who's at best a 2 tier fighter, and then he gets knocked down and spends the entire fight running from Manny Pacqauio. Its time for Shane to call it a career, I'd love to see him take on someone he can beat just to get a win before he retires but Shane has seen his best days. When you have someone like Mosley who's traditionally been considered a "warrior" being reduced to running its over and done.

Shane made a survival effort and you can google it straight from Shane. Shane told the media that he was on a survival because he felt Manny's power in the 3rd round.
Out-boxing is a way different than out-running.
Some contributors here are believing that Shane tried to box the whole freaking fight where it was obvious he was backpedaling using his bicycle, it was also proven in the compubox where Shane only landed I think around 300 punches.

It was only Stick n Move & the Martinez guy which are both nigers who thought it that way.
They pretend to know everything about boxing but could not decipher the difference between lateral movement and running.
What Sergio Martinez did to Pavlik was a perfect example of Lateral Movement. Also good example was Pacquiao over Dela Hoya.
Running on the other hand, was greatly shown in the final seconds of Hearns Hagler, final seconds of the Pac-Hatton first round, and this bout.
