Thailand is one of the easiest countries in Asia to cash a travelers check. Thailand uses banks and little bank branch offices to change money over. These banks and mini banks are open almost every day and often to 8 or 9 pm in areas popular with tourists.
Travelers checks get a hair more in exchange than cash but there is a 33 baht fee to cash a travelers check. Only bring the largest denominations you can get to cut down on lots of fees for small amounts.
You will be asked to produce your passport for identification. When not at the airport the banks will ask you for the hotel name and room number.
I never use hotels, stores or other businesses to cash a TC. In the major cities you will easily find banks and mini banks. Debit cards do work in ATM's but foreign cards have a 150 baht surcharge added to your withdrawal. For the small amounts of money a travelers check is a good deal at only 33 baht per exchange.
The only time I had a travelers check refused was around midnight at the airport when computers were down or during a shift change. I was too lazy to check out another different bank money changer nearby. So have cash available.

I travel regularly to Thailand and always use ATM's for cash.
I have found that the exchange rate is excellent using VISA and more than offsets the bank charges.
You can always carry some cash as there is many money changers in Bangkok where you will get a good rate. Be sure to shop around for the best rate.

I travel to Thailand every few years to visit my wife's family and I always carry travelers checks (American Express) and exhange them for baht at any major bank or private money changer and never had a problem. They used to get passed around to nearly everybody in the bank before you got your money. Now it usually only takes a few minutes. Bring your passport and the address and telephone number and room number of where you are staying. Money changers usually only want to see your passport, Debit cards will work at the ATM outside a major bank building but the ATMs outside the grocery stores won't.

You can cashed travelers check at main banks - but most businesses and establishments will not.
Credit Cards and ATM are better alternatives! Just inform you bank that you will be traveling abroad and will use your cards.

Businesses and most banks will not cash travelers checks.
You are better off using ATM, or credit cards.
Call the bank or company before traveling and tell them you are going overseas, or they may not allow the charges.

No you can't. You shouldn't even take cash. You should take coloured beads, mirrors, combs, etc to exchange for coconuts with the natives. They will be overwhelmed and pronounce you their King.
