how to fix truck tail gate? hard to open/ handle needs to be easier?

MY 1994 ford f150 truck tail gate is getting hard to open. I used to be able to open it with 1 hand no issues but now it takes a lot of strength and is sometime hard to open even for me. My wife can grunt and groan all she wants but can not open it. The gate and bed are not bent or warped. I thin it must be the internal latch assembly. any one know of a video or descriptive web site with pics to help me?

Update:

I live in west texas desert(we are pushing 90 days without rain) and the truck is from Phoenix az. There is no and I mean NO rust on this truck. If wd40 will fix it I will give it a try. However It seems like a temporary fix( we have a lot of sand storms here. seems like "dust" would cling to the wd40 and make a nice Mud?)

WD40 isn't going to help much if at all. The actuating rods are stretched.

You need to remove the latch from the gate, then the rods can be removed from the ends of the gate. I'm not sure if the 94 had adjustments built in, but if not I just make a slight "u" bend in the middle of each rod. It will be a very slight bend, and almost impossible to see but it shortens the rods. Measure before and after. Try and lose about 1/4" on each rod.

I would get on YouTube and search from there. There usually is a video, may not be exactly your truck, but the assy is usually the same. Sounds like its just stickin. there is a back panel that you can take off to access all the mechanisms and to lube them up. There could also be some worn teflon bushings too. Hope this hels some.
