THE doctor told me I had Alzheimers, but gave me no medication, she just took my car off me.?

I can hardly walk and rely on my car to get me to the shops. what does one do when you have no one to go and get you anything to eat.. The Service we once had when there was people to come along and help you.But they do not do that anymore... so probably the Doctor would like me to starve...!!

You cannot drive if you are not fit enough and he is duty bound to take you off the road if there is a risk to you and other people.

Contact Social Services about a care package whilst you are still able to manage at a fairly normal level. Then everything can be in place for later on as well,

I think there are drugs to slow the progression of the disease. See another doc about getting some. And what do you mean by "took your car off you"? She took your license or asked your children to take your car away or something, right? Because actually taking your car and giving you no meds doesn't make me think that person was a doctor.

I suggest that you continue to drive as normal. If you are stopped by the police just feign forgetfulnes; you just say you forgot you lost your licence; after all you've got Alzheimers, and forgetfulness is one of the symptoms of that disease.

You might lose your car though if the police impound it for no insurance (you would not be insured if you have no licence).

Failing that, why not move into a hostel in a town; you'll find getting food much easier that way.

Oh Barbara this is awful. Please see another doctor and see f there is anything you can do to help slow down the disease.

I know not having a car will be like losing a lifeline but I suppose the doctor has to follow guidelines that seem harsh.

Speak to your doctor and see what provisions there are for getting you support immediately.

Barbara, I'm sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with Alzheimers - a horrible condition to get which unfortunately will gradually get worse. You need help and advice. Please contact Alzheimers Society - www.alzheimers.org.uk - they are an excellent resource and support.
