Ron Paul 2012 are you kidding me? did he really say this in Chris Matthew show?
Ron Paul said that " Segregation was created by government laws, slavery was created by government laws". Does this idiot really think that slave owners DIDN'T want slaves, so the government wrote a law saying they had to take them? And can any Paul 2012 supporter show me which law that was & where it could be found?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?nomobile=1&v=26sprb4V... here's his quote
Ok I saw the matthews show in full at the time it aired. I did grab this clip, but this clip wasn't edited. By that I mean this clip from it's start to it's finish is exactly as it was aired( I had to for the sake of time, I wasn't going to put the whole hour show on). Furthermore, per Ron Paul a business could discriminate based off of ethnicity or gender or anything. And it's not about if he likes it or not, rather he believes a person/business should be allowed to discriminate. Under president Paul I could tell the female respondent that she wasn't allowed to respond. Or if your white you can't respond. But that would be wrong, dead wrong. I would be scum of the earth.

I saw that interview. Ron Paul was ridiculous. His views on segregation and civil rights legislation were contradictory and incoherent. I was shocked. Chris Matthews was far too easy on him.

BTW, as DAR points out, your clip is highly edited. I watched the full interview.
His point was that the much despised "Jim Crow Laws" were indeed acts by a government. And Paul would have opposed them for the very same reasons he opposes any government usurpation of the right to private property. His point was to say, "Government shouldn't be involved to begin with, then they wouldn't have to reform so often to correct past errors." It was a simple point... perhaps too simple. But you are miss characterizing what it is he was pointing out.
As for slavery, it was indeed protected by law enshrined at the federal level, whether we like it or not. And it still is, whether you like it or not. Slavery as punishment for crime is STILL IN THE CONSTITUTION. Furthermore, many Federal laws of the early 19th century dealt with the institution of slavery... and were pro-slavery in their nature. The Fugitive Slave Act is a typical example. A politician with Ron Paul's philosophy would have opposed such overreach by the central government... which is his point! This particular law required states to return runaway slaves to their so called "owners"! The really funny part here is that many northern states nullified this law by refusing to recognize its authority. It is a really funny thing to see people like yourself who are apparently clueless about the history of their own country. When the slave South revolted and left the Union, one of the principle reasons they offered was that the Northern states were taking states rights too far, nullifying pro-slavery federal legislation.
You are missing his overall point... which people tend to do for political reasons.
EDIT: Read Missy's answer. It is nice to see someone who actually listens to what is being said without jumping to unwarranted conclusions.
To see someone who behaves in the opposite way, read tribeca_belle's response. She missed the whole point that even Chris Matthews seemed to understand... which is why he had no good retort during the interview.
Where have all the thinking people gone???
Richie B: Excellent point! Isn't it highly amusing that you find people who will completely misunderstand Ron Paul's simple point, yet completely ignore Matthews when he says freedom doesn't work! And this in an interview where slavery is discussed! If freedom doesn't work, then I think slavery is at least an alternative that may work! What a hoot!
Edit: Your additional details add nothing to the discussion. Furthermore, you wouldn't have any control over who responds to your questions because Yahoo is not your private property. And i got news for you chap, Yahoo already has the right to deny access to anyone they choose under their own criteria. Ron Paul makes these points again and again.... no business owner in his right mind would be so blatant in his prejudice. He would be out of business in a heart beat. Furthermore, if some business owner was blatantly prejudice against me, under any criteria, I would prefer to know it outright if possible and shop somewhere else. Get it????
Man you people are strange in your psychotic desire to control everyone else.

LOL! What selectively edited clip! Have you watched the full thing? Or even this somewhat longer version? Transcript also provided of this part of the discussion in this link: http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/201...
It is hilarious when the left, starting with Thinkprogress and spreading through its echo chamber, tries to smear conservatives with highly edited clips.

I supported Ron Paul, yet our superb wager now could be to assist Gary Johnson. The Republicans did not % Ron Paul and Romney did not supply Ron Paul the vice president or a cupboard place. Many Republicans say Ron Paul is fairly a Libertarian and not a real Republican. To that I say ok, to any extent further i would be balloting for an excellent style of Libertarians and lots much less Republicans.

Their was Federal laws segregating people and laws for slavery. Where do you think the whites only signs came from in public places, the government. Why do you think the Military, buses, public school, ...ETC were segregated. Also why do you think people were not arrested for owning slaves?
Ron Paul is not saying that people did not want slaves he saying that he supports private property but would be against federal laws for slavery or segregation.
The better question is did Chris Matthews really say freedom does not work?
