shorted on my paycheck, who do i talk to?

on tuesday the 3rd of may i was scheduled a full 8 hour shift.

as part of my job requirements, i cant leave until my replacement shows up.

my replacement was a full half hour late, so i should of had some OT pay listed on the stub for that period, i dont.

i'm fairly certain i also got shorted a half hour the next day, at just regular rate. and i've probably been shorted numerous other times when my replacement was late and i was here longer then scheduled.

i KNOW i got wrongfully shorted this time. i KNOW the GM makes a habit of adjusting clocked in times to match the written schedule (and the clocked in time is wrong, he cant be bothered to adjust that clock properly for some reason).

so the question is, who do i talk to about this, who is the proper authority i need to get involved?

EDD, the employment services place you go t for unemployment and job hunting assistance would be my guess. and they have an office only about 15 minutes away, and i do have weekday afternoons i can use to go see them.

am i correct in thinking EDD is the place to start?

BTW, this is in california, santa clara county.

i have had this discussion in the past with the GM.

i stated i KNOW that he takes the punched in times and "adjusts" them to match, even when the reality of the next shifts arrival time doesnt match.

and i will state again that it part of my job requirements that somebody be doing that specific job during ALL business hours, dont leave until relieved (just like in the armed forces).

in addition, the GM knows i was stuck here late on teh 3rd of may. i talked to him when i was already 15 over about the fact my replacement hadnt showed and his number was disconnected.

its total bullspit that he shorted me, when he also must know i will object to it.

i will be discussing things with my immediate supervisor on monday, but i'm involving whoever the proper authorties are to ensure thigns get set straight and that they stay that way.

i doubt i'm the only one owed back pay, i also doubt the owners will be happy with the GM......

    EDD has nothing to do with such issues. Start by talking to your supervisor - it doesn't sound like you've even TRIED talking to the employer about it. If you eventually want to file a complaint with the state, try the CA Division of Labor Standards Enforcement.
