Look into ETS, or Electric Thermal Storage systems. They basically heat up fire brick during the overnite hours when electrical demand is low, and disperse the stored heat during the daytime via a fan or water pump depending if you have forced air or radiators/slab heat. Most power companies offer a reduced rate for this type of system, for about a third of the cost per KW.
I pay 8.9cents per KW for lights, cooking, and TV, but only 3.47 cents kwh for heating....and only for about 6 hours per day instead of 24. It cost me about $75-$120.month to heat my 2800 sq ft home in Duluth MN last year.
Contact you local power company for more info.

I live in upper Michigan where the temps are around 0 for weeks at a time in winter. Most people have natural gas or wood stoves. most anything is cheaper then electric heat. also, make sure your home is winterized well.

Install a big wood stove & buy wood in the summer when prices are lower, buy a chain saw and cut whatever wood you can get your hands on , pallets are usually free & burn good especially the oak ones.Look at it as a part time job with all the money you"ll save.
