Has anyone ever seen a poor old person give up their Social Security voluntarily?

It's unbelievable. We're all supposed to be doing our part. Do they have any idea how much money it takes to throw a party for lobbyists these days? Selfish...

I knew a person who refused to file for Social Security retirement benefits because he didn't believe in "charity" which is what he called Social Security. He lived with his daughter and expected her to take care of him His daughter came into the office to see if she could file for him because it was causing a financial hardship for her and her family. Unfortunately, no one could file for him unless he was declared mentally incompetent by a court and someone was appointed his legal guardian. The court determined that he was competent. So the man, who was in his 70s at the time, never received benefits as far as I know.
