Buy Or Sell: Power Metal Is Pantera's Best Album?

Phil Anselmo freaking WAILED on it and so did Dime.

Power Metal

It's a shame Phil turned into the rubber gorilla of Metal later.

So, Buy or Sell?

BQ: Pantera's best album, IYO?

BQ2: Dime, where does he rank among Metal's elite Guitarists?

BBQ: What did you think of Down?

Sell. But only by a little.

I do prefer Cowboys From Hell. I like how it had some heavier stuff, but they had not gotten away from all the elements that were on Power Metal. Plus, Cemetary Gates is bar none, the highlight of Pantera's entire discography. It is their "One", or "Iron Man" or "Holy Wars", the ultimate blend and expression of everything Pantera was and would be.

So sell. I consider it their SECOND best album.

    BQ- CFH

BQ2- Well, when you toss in all the Neo-Classicists, Prog nazis, Tech specialists, and full on Thrash shredders, the Elite field of Metal is actually dang crowded. I hate to say that top tier guitarists are a dime a dozen in Metal.. but honestly.. they are.

Dowling and Tipton, Murray and Smith, Mustaine, Broderick, Friedman, Jeff Waters, Petrucci, Maz Cavalera, Ol Drake, Scott Ian, James Hetfield, Christian Muenzer, Schuldiner, etc, etc, etc,

Those were just without giving it a thought. So top 50? Maybe.. top 50-100? Certainly. But it is not a lack of skill (though compared top most on that list, I don't think he was better), but the sheer amount of competition. I know it will offend Pantera fanboys, but facts are facts.

BBQ- Don't like them. At all.

    Pantera Power Metal Cd

  • Sell - Cowboys From Hell is the only one that didn't sound the same all the way through. Pantera was great in small doses but their songs all sounded the same except for the ones on Cowboys From Hell.

    Cemetary Gates

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liAbljP1W2Y

    Psycho Holiday

    Cowboys From Hell

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR8rgnDDL4U

BQ - Cowboys From Hell as stated above

BQ2 - Dime was good at Power Metal but he was very limited in doing anything else. So I would say middle of the back.

    BBQ - Down ??????????

    SELL.

Phil's voice on VDOP - Far Beyond Driven has some of the best metal vocals of all-time iMO. So powerful. I liked Metal Magic more than Power Metal. I like Power Metal for the fact that Phil was like "F*CK ALL OF THIS GLAM SH*T'' and the groove/thrash band we know and love is how we know them today.

    BQ - Far Beyond Driven

BQ2 - Dime is slightly overrated, but truly in the top 20-30. I love the guy and is a major inspiration.

capacity metallic is one in all Pantera's greater effective albums. purchase- nonetheless i like Cowboys from Hell terrific, that's actual exceedingly darn reliable, and IMO previous due 90s Pantera, on an identical time as reliable, grow to be a skosh repetitious of their style. The worst of Glam metallic = the terrific of Nu metallic sell - I take place to love Sevendust and Kittie, and IMO, ninety 5% of GLAM grow to be horrid.. making the 5% like Tora Tora and Motley Crue go through by potential of association. Kirk Hammett > each Megadeth guitarist yet Marty sell. i could say that Dave Mustaine needless to say is greater effective ( nonetheless perhaps no longer as a lead) yet Chris Broderick is greater effective. apart from, Marty Friedman = terrific thrash guitarist lease. Alex Skolnick is IMO his equivalent, yet no longer many others can fairly touch them. Dave is authentic close at the back of nonetheless. Braan Dailor is the terrific metallic drummer of the recent millennium so a techniques sell. no longer a fan. Jason Newsted is underappreciated purchase. even nonetheless it particularly is authentic he might desire to no longer play maximum of Cliff's basslines correct, so i'm happy they have been given Rob. Chuck Schuldiner >>> Kerry King purchase purchase BUYBUYBUYBUYBUY! My crusty left toenail is greater effective than King tho.

  • Sell

    BQ: Far Beyond Driven

BQ2: In my opinion I'd rank him in the top ten. A lot of people can play better than him with skill but I think he just had the attitude and lifestyle that made him one of the top ten to me. I mean C'mon, the guy was buried in a Kiss coffin!!! Can you get any more Metal than that?

BBQ: I like them. I'm not hanging any judgement over Phil for what he said about Dimebag. Time to let bygones be bygones.

I'm going to "BUY" but with explanation --

I am your typical "Cowboys from Hell" & "Vulgar Power of Display" FANATIC !!

    - (don't hate me because I am beautiful).

However, those albums would NOT have existed, for it not the Amazing prelude of "Power Metal"

I also think that there are "2 Panteras" -- I LOVE the early stuff and think that the Early 80s it's own brand of "Greatness"

Though NOT as Popular -- I would NOT argue against "Power Metal" being there best album.

"Maybe" this was their Pinnacle for their Best Artistic Effort (??)
