please help: Looking for a children's story with unicorns?
It belonged to a series of stories in a volume of books. The unicorn with the curved horn is racing two other unicorns, and during the race he saves people using his horn. At the end of the race he/she is proclaimed the winner, because the race was really about how caring the unicorns could be.
Tiandron. My description does sound like this book, but unfortunately I've already heard of that one, and it's not the one I'm thinking of. In the story I'm thinking of, there are only three unicorns. It's not so much a book as it is a short story within a larger book.

Unicorn Races by Stephen Brooks
" Races is a beautifully created fusion of word and picture. It tells, with no more complexity than it needs, the tale of a young girl named Abigail, who, when her mother bids her goodnight and closes the bedroom door, takes on her night-time role as a princess of the faerie realms. Her unicorn escort transports her to the enchanted woods where she presides over a race between six unicorns. The book is less a story than it is a glimpse into another world: one of colour and magic and beauty. It's an escape into a realm which is not only attractive but safe - Princess Abigail's night-time realm is a place free from the harsh and cynical realities of this world. There's no conflict or competition there, even though the book describes a race: it really doesn't matter who wins: it's the race and the enjoyment of it that's important: the excitement and the fun of it. have you found the book that contains this short story? (Race where the curved horn unicorn wins due to helping those in need rather than coming in first place.) I am looking for it too!

I would also like to know the name of it. I think that in the book I had there was also a story of a person that dressed up like a child to get food and was fed rocks. Does that sound familiar. I can see the picture from the book in my head, AAAHHHHH, someone has to know.

I read this story (and acted it out with finger puppets) when I was in grade school too. Searching around, I seem to have uncovered what it was: the title was "The King's New Pet" and it was in a reader called Cloverleaf. I hope this helps others.

Did you ever discover this short tale? I remember it too - it became in a e book containing a determination of comments. I remember that the king advised the unicorn with the curved horn that it gained the race because of the fact he stopped to assist those in %.
