HELP!! Why NOT to be a CHP!!!?

Ok, my 17 year old boyfriend wants to be a CHP (California Highway Patrol) and I DONT want him..my mom is an officer and she DOES NOT like it and is trying to convince him out of it. I need a good list of reasons why he shouldnt be one so I can change his mind..also I need help for him to find a career he would enjoy.

He's creative, loves to garden, and is extremely handy..He has a small gardening business..i think he should continue on with that.

We are both extremely apart of agriculture..i want to be a livestock vet..please help me with those two questions!

Why NOT to be in law enforcment (as a CHP)..and what he could do.

PS:: He only wants to be a CHP because he thinks it'll be fun to drive the car and chase criminals.

That is a very dangerous job, both from being shot by a criminal or getting hit by a sleepy/drunk/distracted driver. You also have gangs, drug runners, and who knows what else that poses a very real danger to him. Also not worth what they pay. Every cop I've ever known has eventually grown to hate his job.

Well, he's his own person so ultimately he is going to need to make the decision for himself.

That being said, he is only 17. Many police services in my country, like the US, will not accept guys fresh out of high school purely because they don't have enough life experience yet. It's possible he could be looking at another 8 - 9 years before he'd even be considered. I don't mean this in a disrespectful way, but if your boyfriend is interested in law enforcement just because he wants to drive fast, chase criminals and get in gun fights, he's not ready to be an LEO.

While everyone knows that stuff does happen, any police officer will tell him that policing is 90% boredom and 10% excitement. You will always be held to an extremely high standard by the public, media and government. While it is a noble calling, he should look into it a little more before applying.

i know this answer is old but he should not because he could be placed in a city across the state. Lets say you live in L.A. and he could be placed in Sacramento.
