Gone.Gone,Gone as the tune sayes, all the greatest jazz musicians are now, (imo), deceased.?
Is there anyone else currently playing that is on a par with the great musicians of the past carrying on with improvised music except perhaps for Anthony Braxton/Charlie Hayden.
I consider these two to be exceptional musicians.

There is plenty of great music still out there, it just takes some effort to find. If you are looking for older guys that are still alive, there are plenty: Horace Silver, Oscar Peterson, Dave Brubeck, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Ahmad Jamal, and many, many more. Some of them don't play anymore, but a few do, and you can see them live if you keep an eye out. For the most part, they all have websites now, so it isn't hard.
If you are looking for newer musicians that are still playing jazz, or older musicians that are playing new music, check out John Scofield, Brad Mehldau, Keith Jarrett, Wycliffe Gordon, Dave Holland, Chris Potter, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, just to name a few. You should have no problem finding recordings of either the oldest standards or the newest ideas from any of these players.
Some groups and players that I have been listening to lately include Dr. Lonnie Smith, Convergence, Edsel Gomez, Void, Chris Lightcap, John Ellis, and James Carter. They can all be pretty different stylistically, so if you keep your ears open and try new things, you are sure to find something you like.
Don't forget about the women on the scene either, including Anne Iversen, Chie Imaizumi, Maria Schneider, Matana Roberts, and many more if you look and listen.

Wynton! And Chick Corea. George Cables. Bob James.
And check out Eldar Djangirov, carrying on in the tradition of Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson
There are many more... these are just a few that come to mind. I think all of these guys take the music of their predecessors and carry it forward.

I agree many have died. Billy Butterfield, Carl Fontana, Milt Hinton, etc, etc. But there are still a few around who were born in the late 20s and early 30s.
Bill Allred and his son John are excellent trombone players.
