In 3/23/16 broadcast of "Primary Politics" segment on NPR's Fresh Air, what's the name/artist of guitar interlude about 20 mins in?
I *loved* this guitar playing and the transcript of the show does not ID the song. Wrote to the producers of the show and got a form-email back saying that they can't reply to everyone, but I'm hoping that eventually they may respond.
So I'm kind of down to hoping that someone on this board heard the show and recognized the music. It occurs about twenty minutes into the show.
Unfortunately, they've edited the music out of the podcast, but here's the link anyway:
2 AnswersJazz5 years agoTC electronics vs Carl Palmer para EQ stompbox?
If you have actually played these pedals, would appreciate your thoughts on which has best S/N and most musical tone for jazz guitar. I want to exercise slightly more fine-grained control over my clean tone, and I don't want to use a rackmount unit. Thanks!
1 AnswerJazz7 years agoWho else thinks the new page layout of YA is fugly?
Way too much space spent on advertising and not enough on content.
Don't need the previews of body text - I can tell by reading a question whether I want to read the body of the text. So now I have to scroll more than I used to in order to see the same number of questions.
Lots of space wasted on the "leaderboard." Not worthy of that much page real estate.
Fewer categories in the quick links at top of page; now I have to go to a pop-up menu to reach "R&B/Soul" and "Music-Other"
Rollover buttons that pop up under your mouse as you scroll questions are distracting, just plain annoying, to be honest. To avoid this I have to move my mouse pointer to some uninhabited area of the page while I scroll through questions, then I have to move it back to click on one. Blech.
YA, your UI designers need to go back to school. Or work for somebody who has a good UIX department before coming back to Yahoo.
I dislike this page format SO much that I probably won't be participating in YA much anymore.
Anybody else?
Just sayin'...
7 AnswersOther - Music8 years agobest way to clean Ernie Ball 250k pot?
Argh. The pot on my Ernie Ball vol pedal is in bad shape; I've cleaned it a few times in the past with a good cleaner but its so well-sealed that its very difficult to actually get any cleaner into it. I have a gig upcoming and not enough time to buy a replacement. So I'm hoping that someone who has DONE THIS BEFORE can give me PRACTICAL ADVICE for a way to get some good cleaner into the pot. In the past, I've squirted TV tuner cleaner into whatever edges I could find between the shell and the face. It has helped a bit, but I don't hold great hope for that solution another time around. I may try shooting some cleaner down the shaft where it meets the face of the pot, but that's super-hard to reach and I don't have great hopes for it working well.
I've already called a couple stores in the area and nobody keeps it in stock (WTF) so I'll have to order the part online... which is prolly not quite gonna make it here in time.
Any solution requiring disassembly of the pedal is not practical - I plan to do that only ONCE, when the replacement pot arrives. Those of you who have ever wrestled with one of these beasts know why!
Thanks...!
1 AnswerOther - Music8 years agoJames Taylor: what make/model guitar did he play on Colbert Jan 19, 2012?
DO NOT GUESS. I'm looking for a CORRECT answer from someone who knows Taylor's music and his rig. The piece was Carolina In My Mind, and the guitar was acoustic/electric with a really sharp cutaway (like a Byrdland or a Les Paul), bird-shaped inlays in the neck, and abalone or mother of pearl details. Headstock shape was like a PRS and logo was C-shaped but the guitar does not appear to be a Luna or a PRS.
Easy 10 to the correct answer, and THANKS!
1 AnswerRock and Pop9 years agoOptical Minidisc browser/file recovery?
I have an optical minidisc that contained one track about an hour-plus long - recorded on a Sony MD Walkman. Unfortunately I accidentally recorded about ten minutes onto that disc by accident before I realized that I was overwriting my other track. The new recording created a new TOC that now makes the old material inaccessible. If this were a computer hard disk, I could use something like Disk Warrior to construct a new catalog that would enable me to recover files or portions of them that were not yet overwritten. Is there some similar hardware or software that might allow me to do the same with not-yet-overwritten content on an optical minidisc? A file browser for minidiscs? some sort of way to reconstruct a new catalog that shows everything present on the disc?
What I really need is both hardware and software: the abililty to use something other than a consumer-grade minidisc recorder to mount the optical disc, and then some way to browse its content or reconstruct a TOC from existing content.
2 AnswersOther - Music1 decade agoOptical Minidisc file browser or disk utility?
I know this isn't a programming question, but given the esoteric nature of the question, I figured that the engineering community would be a good place to start. If there's a better category to post this question in, please suggest it.

1 AnswerProgramming & Design1 decade agoIn the old T-Mobile commercial, who does Whoopi Goldberg hand the phone to?
I think it's probably a famous musician grown older, but I can't figure out who it is.
1 AnswerCelebrities1 decade agoWho does "Heard It Through The Grapevine" on acoustic guitar?
I heard it while on hold with AT&T.
Please, no random answers - I am capable of googling, etc. If you happened to have heard this version (while presumably on hold with AT&T yourself) and recognize it, please let me know who the artist and disc is. THANKS!
