Can You Recommend Me Some 'Oldies'?
Lately I've been trying to break away from simply just metal and rock, listening to some hip-hop, a lot of punk, good ol' progressive bands, and dabbling with some jazz. But, I just don't know a lot about pre-80s music, other than progressive bands in the 70s, and the big names, like The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, etc.
So, as a fan of all music and soulful guitar, what should I look into first? Any genre is fine, I'm pretty open minded. Thanks a lot =)

So what you're asking for is groups other than what you having mention, right? I have two questions:
How far back from pre 80's do you want to go?
Are you only interested in popular music i.e jazz, country,rock,pop...
Are there any styles of music you don't like? disco maybe?
Just as a random artist suggestion I would recommend Neil Young, David Bowie & Electric Light Orchestra.
This might be a odd suggestion but the Forrest Gump soundtrack has a good mixture of pre 80's music.

Hi Dave,
I'm pretty much on the same page as you. I might not be much help since I can't be sure what you know already... I'll try to give you some artist recommendations and some songs I like by them anyway, but if you already know any of this, you'll have to forgive me.
