I'm a big dumb nerd

  • Non-offensive substitute for "God damn it" in French?

I'm trying to translate this quote:

“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies - God damn it, you've got to be kind.” (from God Bless You Mr Rosewater)

into French for an essay. I've heard "bon sang" and "nom de dieu" but I think they are potentially offensive?

Does anyone know of a lighter version of "God damn it" that is true to the meaning of the quote?

(Bonus question: What word would you replace "wet" with? Does "mouillé" work?)

    Thanks!

  • Is hydrogen fluoride an ionic or covalent bond?

The electronegativity difference for the compound is greater than 1.7, which usually means a bond is ionic, but hydrogen is a non-metal? My teacher told me to list it as ionic and not to lose sleep over it, but he he didn't exactly answer my question. Is there an exception I'm missing out on? Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • What does "climber" mean in this context?

In chapter 28 of To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout asks Aunt Alexandra about Cecil's mother saying it's unsanitary to eat after other folks, and "she said people who held such views were usually climbers." What does that mean?

    Thank you.

  • B&A: What are some books that made you go "whoa, what?"?

I'm going to pick up some books later today and I'm in the mood for some good plot twists, so any recommendations are welcome. I really enjoyed Ubik by Philip Dick, fantastic book that it made me go "what?" a lot.

BQ: Favourite movies with good plot twists?

  • Does anyone know the name of this creepypasta?

I read this sometime last year and enjoyed it, but I can't recall the name. The story was written in a journal format, and it was about a man who lived alone and this creature that showed up in his house and stalked him. It started small and as the story went on he described it becoming bigger and growing limbs. At the end the narrator shot both himself and the thing, and I believe he was later found dead next to his neighbor. Sorry about any errors but that's the best I can do. Anyone know? Thanks.

  • What are your favourite Ray Bradbury books or short stories?

Mr Bradbury passed away late last night, after a lengthy illness, according to Harper Collins. I feel pretty sh*tty.

In his honour, what are your favourite books or short stories by him?

  • R&P: So I know this question's been done a lot of times, but...?

What's a band or artist you don't think anyone in R&P knows? Leave a link if you can. TU bands you haven't heard of, TD bands you have heard of. Most TU's gets best answer.

I'm going to mention Sopor Aeternus because I don't see her on here a lot.

BQ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjeeNTC6uxU So, um, yay or nay?

  • Do you guys have any idea what band this is?

A friend of mine described a band to me that he's been looking for for ages, and I'm actually really curious because it sounds familiar. Anyway, he said he came across it when searching for a band called We Dream Nightmares, they have growled vocals, and one of their album covers had three skulls on it; two are sort of hanging, and the other looks like death. He said they might start with an A or W but he isn't sure.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • If a picture's worth a thousand words, I painted a thousand pictures?

If a scream is worth a thousand dreams then I dreamed a thousand whispers.

Alright, so I started listening to Illogic recently and he's quickly becoming one of my favourite lyricists. So, I have a couple of questions for you lovely people (I realize they're pretty generic, but I'm curious).

MQ: Who are some of your favourite lyricists? Feel free to leave song lines, or something.

MQ2: How important are lyrics to you? Music usually comes first, and lyrics are a bonus. I find that they become more important when I'm listening to hip-hop, though.

BQ: So, uh, yay or nay? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOjKVhPNCMo

BQ2: Have you been listening to any artists outside of your usual preferences lately?

    BQ3: Favourite rap album?

  • Hey R&P, Веня Дркин, yay or nay?

I've been trying to get into more Russian music lately. I'm digging this guy at the moment. I'm not sure if any of you speak Russian, or if it'd appeal to anyone who doesn't. His lyrics are pretty sweet, but even if you can't catch them, give him a try anyway.

  • R&P: Have you guys ever had music related dreams?

Last night I dreamt that two of my guy friends came out as gay and their parents were mad and tried to kill them or something so my other friend and I hid one of them in her cupboard and the other one and I were running around robbing ice cream parlours. Next thing I know, I'm sitting in a boat talking to Tupac about my future. He was telling me that I should get a part time job and that hard work is really rewarding, that action brings good fortune.

I had a similar dream about a month ago but with Chuck Schuldiner in a forest and he was telling me that I should be happy without depending on other people and that happiness comes from within a person and to search for it in other things and people is foolish. Why are dead musicians trying to inspire me in my sleep? dshgtukjhdjkesghkj

    Anyway,

MQ: Ever have music related dreams?

    BQ: Strangest dream you've had?

    BQ2: Favourite Tupac song?

BQ3: What are your opinions on same sex marriage? (Out of curiosity)
