How to avoid an uncomfortable situation with trich...?
Once every two weeks I have a class that the Pledge of Allegiance is recited during. I have always been taught to remove my hat out of respect and I would like to continue doing so, but I have a problem. I wear a hat to school because I have hard to cover bald spots on my head (from trichotillomania) and I always get so stressed out about that class where they say the Pledge. For obvious reasons (embarrassment mostly) I really don't want to have to take off my hat. I don't know what to do! I was late to the class last week so I missed the Pledge, but I am afraid my teacher will get mad if I am late again. Should I ask to go to the bathroom right before the announcement? Or maybe go to the nurse? If any of you have ideas they would be greatly appreciated. Again, I mean no disrespect by not wanting to remove my hat, I am just afraid to do so. Thank you.

If you are suffering from Trich, try powdered Inositol. I have had this condition for 15 years, and taking this every day, or even just when I felt compelled to pull my hair, gave me my life back. It works almost instantly, and regulates the serotonin in your brain which helps alleviate stress and depression. It's a natural B vitamin so there are no harmful side effects. I used to have eyebrows so sparse i had to draw them on, and my part was about an inch wide because I had pulled so much. After trying Inositol, nobody can even tell I have trich.
If you are trying to grow you hair back:
-take biotin.
-purchase a scalp massager, and use it with some essential oils that stimulate hair growth like rosemary and lavender oil. If you feel compelled to pull, massage your scalp instead. It feels very therapeutic and stimulates the blood vessels that encourage hair to grow.
-Use a shampoo that does not have sulfates in it. These build up on your scalp and can hinder hair growth. Also lots of vitamins is always a plus in shampoo.
if you try these together, you will have your hair grow back, I promise.
Also if you have pulled your eyelashes or eyebrows-Ardell makes a product called "Ardell: Lash & Brow Excel" that works wonders. I've been pulling my brows for years and they started to grow back in just a couple days of using this.
In the meantime, to cover bald spots, I would recommend going to a store like Sally Beauty Supply. They sell tracks of natural human hair made by a company called Sassy for around $12. Find the color that best matches your hair. Purchase some thread, a needle, and some clips with it. You can then sew the clips onto the hair and cut the hair into sections that are just big enough to cover spots where they are needed. It's an affordable way to hide areas until they grow back.

Women and girls are NOT required to remove hats at any time. Hat removal rules apply to males only. If your teacher gets upset with you, tell your teacher that etiquette does not require females to remove hats.
Really, you can't be forced to say the Pledge of Allegiance. You can just refuse to say it and stay seated. It's illegal to force you to do it. You can just say that you don't believe in worshiping a flag because it's idolatry.

I think you should discuss this privately with your teacher. If s/he knows why you are not comfortable removing your hat, it will not be seen as disrespectful.
