Well, there were actually two important wars at the time. If you were American I could just assume you meant the American one, but being British I'm not so sure.

The American War of 1812 was the Americans versus the British. There was political tension between the US and Britain, as a result of various territorial disagreements as well as the fact that Britain was drafting American sailors. The US invaded Canada, the British invaded the US. Though Britain did very well at first and burnt Washington, D.C., later American victories resulted in heavy British casualties and eventually withdrawal. "The Star Spangled Banner" was written about the British shelling of Baltimore.

The other European one is a coalition of the British and Russians versus Napoleon, who had conquered a lot of continental Europe. British participation in this war is part of the reason they did not keep the war going in America. As Napoleon was driven back, armies from the liberated countries joined this coalition. Napoleon was eventually defeated and sent into exile. Tchaikovsky wrote his famous "Overture 1812" about this war. It actually lasted longer than 1812, though the Russians call it the "Patriotic War of 1812" due to the French invasion of (and defeat in) Russia in that year.

The War of 1812 was started because the Royal Navy was going after deserters who left the Royal Navy and had jumped ship to fight for the United States.

The Americans invaded Canada, the British invaded America, the British burnt down the white house (That's how it got it's name). the war was fought for two years before coming to a draw, with neither side gaining very little.

a military conflict between the U.S.&The British Empire also including those of present day Canada. The U.S declared war in 1812 for a number of reasons, including a desire for expansion into the Northwest Territory.

Nether the Americans nor the British achieved their main goals. The US wanted to annex Canada as part of the United States, but failed. The British wanted to occupy the Ohio Valley and Mississippi basin and cut the new United States off from the western portion of the Continent, confining them to their original size of the thirteen colonies but failed.

As the peace talks opened, Britain was making what the US considered unreasonable demands-----British-occupied Maine was to be transferred to Canada. Most of the Northwest Area (Indiana, Ohio, Lower Michigan, Illinois) was to be deemed a "Neutral Zone" for Indians. Whites would be forbidden in this area, it was for Indians only. The rest of Northwest area, including some British-occupied land around Lake Michigan and Lake Superior were to be turned over to Canada. American public opinion was outraged when Madison published the demands; even the Federalists were now willing to fight on. The U.S. rejected the demands and there was an impasse.

To see to it that the US agreed to these demands, 3 separate invasion forces were sent to the US.

Invasion force 1 came down from Canada. After Napoleon abdicated on April 6, 1814, the British could send veteran armies to the United States, but by then the Americans had learned how to mobilize and fight. British General Prevost launched a major invasion of New York State with 10,000 veteran soldiers, but the American fleet under Thomas Macdonough gained control of Lake Champlain and the British lost the Battle of Plattsburgh in September 1814 which forced them back to Canada.

Invasion Force 2 came in from the Atlantic, crushed the US forces defending Washington DC, burned down several US Government buildings (White House, Capitol, Library of Congress among others) and moved on toward Baltimore where the US forces there defeated the British and drove back onto the British ships.

Invasion Force 3 American forces, commanded by Major General Andrew Jackson, defeated the invading British Army, under General Edward Pakenham, intent on seizing New Orleans and the vast territory the United States had acquired with the Louisiana Purchase.

    All British invasions were repelled

A peace treaty was signed once both sides realized that they had reached a stalemate.

If Britain defeated Jackson’s ragtag force, then they would have had free reign of the Mississippi River. This would allow Britain to stop American expansion, cripple American trade, and support the Indian nation.

British victory in the War of 1812 would have changed history. The British would have created an Indian nation to counter American expansion. New Orleans’s capture would allow Britain to hem the Americans in, control economic development in the west, and help native peoples in their struggle against the United States. Lastly, Andrew Jackson, the most important president between Jefferson and Lincoln, would never become chief executive changing the presidency’s historical trajectory. In the end, the U.S. would have become a third rate power.

During this war many American POW's were taken to Dartmoor Prison and many died there. Go to Dartmoor Prison site and look for American Cemetery Project, there is a lot of information on this site which should help you. This war has nothing whatsoever to do with the War of Independence or the Peninsula wars. Good luck.

You don’t need to exercise for long periods of time. Short, sharp sets of exercise will produce better results in the event you work hard. Get a skipping rope, skip for two minutes, do push ups for 1 minute, skip for two minutes, rest for example minute. Then change the push nearly something else like sit ups in addition to do the set again. Repeat it five times and it’s a quick, effective workout that will improve results than a long function or swim.
