Why do you think the media gave so much attention to the May 21 end of the world thing?

Why do you think the media gave so much attention to this crackpot? After all he made the same claim back in the 1990's and nothing happened then either. What makes him different than any other flake standing on a street corner shouting about the end of the world? What REAL news story is the media trying to draw our attention away from? Or do you think it's a general doom & gloom mentality of the public at the moment, and that's why the media gave air time to the May 21/rapture/end of the world story?

Because they KNOW they will not be included, which means they get to cover all of the horror stories that happen because of it! lol trying for ratings as usual! Of course, why did they spend like 3 weeks covering the death of Anna Nicole Smith? Honestly, who really cared?

Most news casts any more are 80% hot air and BS, 15% sports (which I guess could be considered the same thing! lol), and 5% anything that matters. People have the attention span of mayflies, so they need/want/crave/manufacture sensation.

I actually had not heard a thing about this till I saw it posted several times on Yahoo Answers. Regardless, the media basically publishes or airs what it thinks people want to know. Sensationalism sells, as well as blood and gore. Around here, though, the end of the world doesn't seem to be a hot topic. We're too busy reading about corrupt politicians and child killers.

the media are olny giving the date attention because people are talking about ...but the main concern about it would be the people that really want to believe it and goes so far to commit some type of crazy act like suicide or setting off bombs. Past history shows fanatics are more-likely to commmit suitcide but I hope they are not feeding into it this time.

The world will not end. If it was then it would have already. It had been said to end tons of times by now, but had it? No. AND if it does end, i hope i am last to die, so i will see what happened.
