How do I keep my dog's urine from killing the grass?

My dog is 7.5 years old. 1 year ago we moved out west and this is the first house we've had where she kills the grass. Back east (first 6.5 years of her life) she made the grass grow better where she went. What's up? I'm guessing it's a different type of grass, but I have don't know what type of grass we have here or what we had back east.

You can train her to go in one area of the yard only.

I know a few people who have done this and it works similar to training them to use puppy pads inside the house.

Fence off a small area of the yard down in a back corner, just use garden edging, something fairly low but leave on end open.

Every time you take the dog out to pee do so on leash and go straight to that little fenced area.

Eventually she will get the hang of peeing in that one spot.

Next let her go out off-leash but walk over near the fenced area so she follows.

Praise if she goes in the right spot.

You can put potted plants or something pretty around the toilet spot to hide it from view, and you will only have that one area of the lawn damaged rather than patches everywhere.

It probably is different grass as you said. Try watering the area to dilute the urine. It might help if you contain it to one part of your yard. We use little rocks that attract dogs to do their business near them. They have a "unique" smell according to the manufacturer. They actually do work, and were only about $20

The only way to do this is to dilute the concentration of the urine by saturating the area where she voids with water. The reason that you had 2 differing experiences with the soil is simply that of how alkaline the earth is and how the acid PH levels in her urine,

    interact with those levels.
