What is the significance of accessory renal arteries?

I always wonder what do questions like this mean by "significance". However all I know is that they may arise from above or below the main renal arteries. Also these "extra" arteries are found more commonly in the left kidney. Thanks in advance.

their presence indicates abnormal development of renal vasculature, When multiple arteries occur, each artery supplies a distinct segment of the kidney; there is no collateral perfusion. Occlusion of one artery will result in infarction of its associated segment.
