How do I keep small rodents out of my backyard for the sake of my pups and my sanity?

Hi all,

I have a 9 yr old dachshund named Miles. This weekend he found himself a bunny nest and took out 6 of them. How do I keep this from happening again?

Update:

Thanks everyone. I know it's his natural instinct, but it still sucks! LOL!

I heard something about fox urine spread around the perimeter and even human hair (not sure how to even do that one).

What we did (don't know if it works on rabbits though) was to remove any possible hiding places: debris and overgrowth (especially ivy).

    Good dog. :o)

You really cant. They jump, they burrow, and rabbits are a royal pain. My big dogs are inside at night, and as soon as they leave the rabbits move in.

I have been fighting with them for decades. The best I have been able to do is make them afraid of me so they run when I walk out the door (rather than sitting there staring at me.)

No foxes where I live, but plenty of coyotes outside the fence. Which is just one more reason for rabbits to come inside the fence. :o)

At one point I had dogs that would not kill them, and I counted 25 rabbits in my backyard one morning.

They are not afraid of humans (Im serious about them sitting there staring at me) so I doubt human hair would do anything.

Poor bunnies, unfortunately Rabbits are not very smart. Even though they can smell a dog on the premises they still make a nest. Nothing much you can do as your doxie is doing what comes naturally....
