When you move to a different state, do you get that accent?

I live in Maryland, and was thinking of moving to Texas or tennesse, would i pick up and accent? thanks! :)

    They say you don't pick up accents if you're over the age of eight, but that isn't really true. Southern accents are really easy to pick up so if you're there long enough you probably will, especially if you're trying to fit in. I used to stay there all summer when I was around 11 but I don't think I returned with an accent. Not that I would notice if I did haha.

    The younger you are, the more likely you are to pick up a new accent. I have lived in California for 30 years and people still hear my southern roots. Of course I do talk to southern friends and family on a regular basis and I have tried not to lose my accent.
