Are republican candidates not aware that people over 55 normally vote republican?

Older Americans normally vote republican, even Newt Gingrich thought it was a terrible idea to try to go up against medicare. At certain points, trying to even stop or do the opposite of whatever President Obama does is not such a good idea.

I think this is one of those times when they should just admit it was a bad idea and hurry up and move on before the debates because you know it's going to come up in the debates and they're going to name all the candidates that said that backed it 100%. Right now, some of the most electable candidates are saying they're strongly behind it and for it.

But like I asked, it's so Odd ...this is why I'll admit I am confused and this is a real question. Republicans dont know that Older Citizens are a big part of their base?

Update:

I shouldnt have mentioned the Obama part because that makes it sound like a rant. If it was, I would be cheering it on. I am truly confused as to why republicans would want to change something that a big part of their base is for.

Update 2:

Here's the source from earlier why a democrat won upper NY, people they are really republican. Im still shocked.

People over 55 are also rational realist; they see the situation the country is in and don't sugar coat it. Probably very hard finding someone over 55 that doesn't realize the country is headed down the crapper at an accelerated pace.

I am over 55, I realize that all entitlements need reform. Medicare and Medicaid need new life and a new way to fund them. If our taxation policy was fair and even and if we had healthcare accounts that provided benefits similar to what the House and Senate get I beleive we would be able to bring the reform needed. The left will demonize and teh right will not fight. This is not what solves problems. What ever happened to teh days when we were responsible for our health and competition provide the needed balance in cost!

Whatever it was, arrogance or entitlement, I don't know. But they have put off a lot of people. The Dem that won the seat that has been Republican forever because of Paul Ryan wanting to kill Medicare sends a very clear message that you just can't dismiss the elderly. It was a major blunder that could be their undoing all the way through the 2012 election and beyond. Not just because of voting on the issue but because they sent a message to people that says, "we don't care about you!"

I frequently vote Libertarian...yet, if I have been a Democrat i could vote for bill Richardson. he's the only guy or woman who ought to in all threat win the final election. Obama and Edwards are lightweights and could get stomped. look how Edwards have been given creamed in his debate with Cheney. Obama has even much less adventure than Edwards had at that element. Hillary is likewise a gentle-weight PLUS she has diverse skeletons in her closet PLUS she is basically too polarizing PLUS diverse human beings do exactly unlike her. bill Richardson has extra adventure, he has "gravitas" and he's a lot smarter than the present Democratic field. despite the fact that he could in no way play his race card, he's Hispanic and that i think of that should artwork extra in his choose than against him. Wesley Clark could relatively have a stable threat of defeating any of the Republican contenders, yet i think of he's no longer enjoyed by making use of maximum Democrats.

Ya well if the Republicans want a future they need to start focusing on younger voters because we're the ones paying for all the B.S. government programs that older generations left us with. Democrats are a lost cause. They'll fool some people all the time but they wont fool all of us all the time.

They thought the tea party was gaining headway so they let them take over. Democrats might occasionally vote republican. But the tea party has completely ruined it for them

Coming up with ideas is fine. But they need more debate than a budget proposal.
