Did anyone hear that deluded Rugby commentator?

Welcoming fans in America and around the world through Fox sports he said, "rugby state of origin, NSW V Queensland, is the envy of sports administrators Australia wide". Aussie rules (the worlds greatest game) is watched and televised through 6 states and a territory, not just 2 states like rugby. Who possibly are the administrators he refers to ? I hope the Australian Society for the Prevention of deluded bozo rugby commentators, take action on these misleading remarks asap !!

Don't worry mate. it was only Ray Warren who made those comments. he says that every year just to make sure that State of Origin rugby league is the #1 game. (yeah in his own mind). don't worry. rugby league legend Wally Lewis was saying the same thing on the 6pm news up here in QLD tonight.

You have to remember. this State of Origin series is broadcast in some 46 states across the United States. that's why they think that they can say this kind of stuff. but the reality is. that we know what code is KING here in OZ. & it ain't that one.

    cheers.

That was Ray Warren. The guy's an idiot. He's Rugby League's equivalent resident clown. At least the OTHER commentators of rugby league actually PLAYED the game at senior level! Rumour has it that Ray Warren bombed out at Karingai Under 11s and that is the extent of his player career ...

But he's right in a fashion: RL State of Origin does get top ratings in Queensland and NSW, and good ratings in the other States and has no competition from the AFL, A-league and other football codes because it is the ONLY state-against-state matches played in Australia in the footy codes.

The Australian Rules administrators may have STARTED the Origin concept, but when they f****d around with it and started having teams like The Allies compete, well it kind of lost the prestige, hey?

I follow both football codes AFL and Rugby League and the occasion game of union...what can i say love sport...I think without being biased that the State of Origin series attracts a larger overseas audience than any AFL game. I think Origin is bigger than the NRL grand final itself in terms of viewing number i reckon. While the AFL grand final takes the cake by far on top of any sporting code in Australia. AFL is def played by more people around ALL OF AUSTRALIA while QLD is Rugby League heartland and NSW both Rugby league and Union.

The majority of people watch State of Origin just like the majority of people watch the AFL Grand final they are both significant sporting events!!

NRL - NSW boasts 9 teams - QLD scratches up 3 teams

Qld has won the last 6 State Of Origin series on the trot.

Obviously NSW isn't NRL heartland, producing the best RL players in the country.

I don't see that as being the envy of any sports administrators anywhere !

    Yep, I heard it.

And I said to myself - just watch the fickle AFL fans come out & bag him for saying it.

The AFL has an identity problem because no-one outside Australia gives two hoots about the game. They put exhibition matches on overseas & get bored ex-pats & Oz holiday makers making up a sparse crowd.

NRL SoO matches are the envy of the AFL & there is no doubt about it.

LOL. I live in rugby league world and these guys are fair dinkum delusional to the point that if I walked the streets witht he same misguided feelings of greatness I would be locked up. Apparently, according to them, the australian border finishes at new castle, Illawarra and katoomba and anything outside of that is regarded as uncharted wasteland. Every one of there clubs is in debt, everyone of there clubs struggles year in and year out simply because there is not enough room for all the clubs in their competition. Cheers

State of Origin outranks all AFL games, in and outside Australia. Outside Australia by a landslide.

Rugby fans and casuals in many countries watch Origin, especially in Europe. The AFL doesn't have any games that exist in regards to popularity outside of Australia.

He wasn't saying the NRL itself is the envy of sports administrators, but the State of Origin series. And it is. The AFL would love a 3-game series that appealed to non die hards. At the moment people outside of AFL and think you're talking about the Arena Football LEague(gridiron) lol

Yeah I heard the idiot, one thing he forgot to mention was the NRL pinched the idea from the AFL (VFL). Aussie Rules had it first and they thought, here's a good idea, now they have Fijians, Islanders etc playing 'state of origin' for their two RL playing states.
