  • Question for Shifty and the carlton supporters.?

Previously shifty posed a question on here about the Collingwood influence at his beloved carlton. He asked whether this was good or bad for the club. I would like to ask, how this magpie influence is looked at now, with the blues doing far better than I think even their most ardent supporters dreamed.

So the question, has the magpie influence in carlton town been beneficial, or detrimental to the way the blues are currently traveling?

  • Round one has been completed. What did you learn?

Round one has been done and dusted, and some very interesting facts have come about already. Hers what I learnt from round one.

ST Kilda; Will struggle this season as once again they failed in another close one against Geelong. Add this to the mental pressure of failure in four Finals in 12 months and it could well be a long year for the Saints.

Port; Well drilled side. If not for their poor ball control the margin would have been a lot closer. The magpies would have been sweating bolts at three quarter time.

Richmond; If they lose Reiwoldt they are in serious trouble. When the Blues left him alone during the third quarter he shined. Once they shut him down the tigers had nothing. Hardwick will not be coaching them next season as this talented band of youngsters should be way better than they are. Too many mistakes, and simple errors.

Carlton. Play like this against the stronger sides and they will lose by a hundred points every time. ratten is on shaky ground.

Geelong. As I predicted last season, Selwood would get seriously injured by the way he ducks into tackles. It is sad cause he is good enough not to use cheap tactics to win free kicks.

Melbourne. Top six finish looms for them this year. They showed a lot of fight and courage to come from behind and nearly snatch victory against the Swans.

Essendon; Now have the defence to match their flamboyant and fast paced attacking style of recent years. Knights inability to teach the bombers defence is what cost him his job, and Hird was well aware of this. They are going to be the headache side all season.

Those are my thoughts on the first round, and how I see the season panning out. By the way I tipped six and a draw how did you go. Cheers

  • Has the AFL opened pandoras box?

By not citing Goddard for dropping the knees onto a collingwood players head, and not citing three players, including two magpies, for head high contact, two of whom opened up their opponents with the contact, has the AFL basically declared open slather on an opponents head? I think they have.

  • Should the rules be changed, before somebody paralyses the cats ducking manoeuvre?

The rule currently says that any high contact regardless of whether the player ducks or not, is an infringement. The problem I am seeing is a couple of cats are appearing to duck just before they are tackled forcing this high contact. Now I understand the rules is there to prevent injury, but with these players playing for this free kick now, I can see a horrific injury occurring, especially if someone the size of Brown or Cloke is running full speed to tackle a player who ducks just before contact. I saw a couple last night where the Collingwood player had little choice as the cats tended to duck and move in their direction. What are your thoughts here?

  • Did the mighty cat empire collapse in frustration?

Normally the cats find a way to get themselves back into a game. However last night they clearly failed to do this in what was one of the more complete magpie performance, or anyperformance I have seen for a long time. Did the cats get frustrated with Collingwoods pressure? I think they did.

  • Did anybody else here the umpire say "your reported, your reported, during the scuffle in the third quarter?

I saw Didak throw a punch at Ablett just before this. I would also like to know if Goldsack has been reported for his careless charge which started the same scuffle. Also did Ling get reported for his rabbit punch to Brown? I think he should've.
