is the net in danger of becoming censored and reformed?

i keep hearing a lot of stories these days about either ; the government ' are ' going to regulate the internet - their going to regulate 'parts' of the internet - their going to start regulating social networking websites like twitter, facebook or even youtube .

there has been some controversy recently about twitter and users publishing a celebritys name ' mr ryan giggs ' - he had taken out an injuction because of it - because of this recent news story, on a recent news show, they were discussing that the uk government might take steps to regulate parts of the net , sites like twitter etc.

as well as that, in general ive heard stories a lot about the governments of the west will soon take steps to regulate the net - block what websites they dont deem appropriate , restrict what sites you can visit etc .

heres a recent write up in the news recently about internet censorship provided by russia today;

'' A short while back we first told you about how Google had taken it upon themselves to censor any words that were associated with piracy sites from your searches. We also spoke of whispers that congress was working to ensure that the federal government would be able to unilaterally order search engines such a Google to block sites they put on a blacklist. Apparently the rumors were correct, because the Senate has introduced a bill that would give the government legal power to either disrupt or shut down completely, any websites "dedicated to infringing activities ".

id appreciate all views on this matter . its a subject very important to me as im against ' any ' internet regulation i believe in all freedom of expression.

thanks

    “Web logs are the prized platform of an online lynch mob spouting liberty but spewing lies, libel and invective. Their potent allies in this pursuit include Google and Yahoo.” So wrote Daniel Lyons some years back, in a classic Forbes cover story titled 'Attack of the Blogs'.

    This article takes a deep plunge into the reasons which have made the uncensored internet a danger not only for individuals but also for society.The landscape of internet is vast and it is not easy to track down offenders.

    sure this can be in danger of censorship. extra often than not Democrats yet republicans to boot. cyber web regulation is what libya and egypt did. comparable ingredient with Hugo Chavez. no longer that they could have the manpower to able to end all out censorship. yet having your finger on the button is sufficient for me. @Tammy you do comprehend that the accomplice flag symbolizes the southern socialist occasion in American historic previous?

    I too agree with freedom of expression. Yet I am like little polly flinders warming my pretty little toes and up on my screen comes something really gross. (groase, grose?). So if censoring prevents that it gets my vote. Thankfully this community filters out the stuff that is so disagreeable.

    Do you think it is a good idea to allow a terrorist cell to use Google/Twitter/Facebook/Bebo, even a privately made and hosted website to promote its recruitment?
