Newly diagnosed with epilepsy! Need advice please?

I was recently just diagnosed with epilepsy after my first seizure a couple of weeks ago, and an abnormal EEG...

I've read everything on line about it, and I've spoken to my neuro about it...

But, I wanted to hear from people who have it, or live with people who have it...Are there things that I should stay away from...I know no driving long periods of time and enough sleep...are there specific things that you find triggers a seizure? What should I avoid doing?

Thank you all :)

Update:

i haven't been put on any medication yet. my nero said to take 250mg's of magnesium a day. I don't have a car, so I don't drive, but the sun does bother my eyes, so I am always wearing sunglasses.

And yes, flashing lights do bother me...i was watching a movie recently and I had to cover my eyes.

Thanks for the info :)

My sister has epilepsy. And she has to avoid fast flashing lights (strobe lights are bad but disco balls are ok). She also has difficulty with the sun coming through the trees while driving and has to wear sunglasses that wrap around and block the light from the sides of her eyes. Also if she starts to feel twitchy do to this then she closes one eye and covers it with her hand, keeping the other eye open. We don't know why it works but a nurse told us about it and it works.

But this information will only help you if you have seizures brought on by lights. If you have seizures brought on randomly then I'm not sure how to help.

Make sure you take your medicine at the same time everyday and never miss a dose. And always be aware of your surrounding just in case :)

Well to start with you'll wish to consume a nutrition of protien and vegtables. In this degree I would not fear an excessive amount of approximately low fats, but when you'll be able to manipulate it please do as that's the target. Do no longer consume white bread, white rice, potatos or any processed grains in any respect. If you'll be able to preserve your sugars down you'll be able to upload entire grains and recent fruit--for your nutrition. You will wish to preserve it all the way down to not more than 30-forty five carbs in line with meal, and five-15 carbs in line with snack. You wish to be consuming each two-three hours, three foods and the leisure snacks. As time is going on, you will be capable so as to add a few treats into your nutrition--however they do must rely in opposition to the carbs any longer, till endlessly. Also consider top fiber, the extra fiber the greater for a diabetic. Really for all people, however for us in particular--you'll be able to deduct a million/two the complete fiber from the complete quantity of carbs.
