Does a ac or fan cost more money to run?
It is summer time and in North Carolina its getting really hot out. We have been running 2-4 fans. At least 2 run 24/7. At other times we run 4 for -12 hours at a time. The windows are always open to. All day and night. So, if we close the window and stop running 4fans and turn the ac on since its above 90degrees outside, will that cut our electric bill at all? None of the fans are energy star so they are not efficiency in how the use the electricity.

Four fans are about 240 watts run in full power. A small 5000BTU A/C uses 500W. Run FANs are cheaper.

Fans cool by removing sweat from people, if there is nobody in the room it's wasting energy so turn them off if nobody is home or in the room. A/C's suck a lot of power, using fans will cost less but sleeping in anything over 80 is miserable, cut back on something else and sleep in the cool.
