Why do people use auto-tune so much?

Its really annoying that everyone wants to sound like a robot.

    Well actually this an old school sound that was brought back to life by T-pain. It gave hip hop music a new hot sound again and made artist sales sky rocket. So that's why everybody is jumping on the auto-tune train.

    Less effort than learning to sing in tune.

    probably because they can't really sing all that well and sounding like a robot trumps their own voice, or maybe because EVERYONE else is doing it...

    cuz they cant sing in tune with songs and hit certain notes or dont have a very good singing vocie.
