A good, tragic/romance/fantasy/drama novel?

I'm really into romance novels, however, not the mushy sentimental kind. I like the kind that don't always have happy endings and that are some what depressing (ya, i know). I also like a little fantasy and drama woven in as well. Can anyone tell me of a book that has those four elements to it? I would greatly appreciate it!

Both the other posters suggested vampire novels. To take a slightly different track, I'd suggest "The Secret of Dragonhome" by John Peel. It's got several of the elements that you are looking for. It's fantasy. Certain people in the books have Talents that give them different powers. The book begins with tragedy and sets the main characters on a journey to try to piece their lives back together. During the course of this the main character finds an unexpected romantic interest. This develops while the story progresses and in the end a big secret and a large surprise are revealed.

I read it 1998 when it came out and I was younger. I'm a guy, but I think guys or girls can find elements in it to enjoy. The only issue I had with it was that it was a little open ended and I really wanted to read more. I checked for several years, when it occured to me, for more info. Just 2-3 weeks ago I happened to check again and found out that he plans to write a sequel soon. I emailed him to tell him that I was excited about this and if it was just one more book or what. He said that the final words of the book are "to be concluded in ___". I can't remember the name this second, but the good news is that there are two more to look forward to.

Also, it might not fit your criteria as well, but "The Sword of Truth" by Terry Goodkind is my second favorite series ever. It's a high fantasy series. It is long, which I find a plus, and has a unique writing style where the main character figures things out and reveals it to you and the secondary characters as opposed to the usual method of the reader piecing things together from bits of each characters POV. He's not real heavy on the magic, but it's definitly there. The part you might enjoy is the relationship between the main character and his love interest. I won't give anything away, but basically they are really into each other from the first time they see each other, but there are major things standing in their way. They constantly have things trying to keep them apart. These books are also more real and "gritty" than most books I've read, such as describing sex, war, etc. . . instead of just glossing over and giving generalities. I hope one of these two books/series will be somthing you can enjoy. Good reading.

For the love of Granny, don't read Twilight.

Try "The Time-Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. It is my all-time favorite romance (and I hate romance, so you know it's not sappy.) Henry DeTamble suffers from a genetic disorder that causes him to involuntarily travel through time. He tends to gravitate toward significant events in his own past, and it is on these trips that he first meets his future wife, Clare Abshire (or should I say she first meets him?)

The book is brilliantly written, but occasionally confusing when you have several Henries running around in one chapter, so pay attention to the little intros at the beginning of each one. They'll tell you the year and the age of everyone present. Enjoy :)

Okay, so it's not a published book, YET, but there's a website called wattpad.com and it has great authors. One of the most popular has a vampire romance, but instead of dealing with Edward, sparkly crap, it's real vampires. Here's the link:

Seriously, whatever I just said gave it no justice at all, the story is so great and well-written, I think she's actually working on getting it published, too. The only problem is that it's not finished yet. Anyways, happy reading!

Twilight books are tragic when you read them, romance when you meet someone who likes them, fantasy because there is a f**K*ng sparkling vampire, and drama because bella gets the vampire but sleeps with the wolf, so yeah, you could say Twilight is the history about a woman choice between necrophilia and zoophilia! :D

I don't think t.v. is a waste material of your time, it's just that I see no real use of it nowadays and there is little or nothing educational or worthwhile on now. Children of today are exposed to 'entertainment' that is just plain stupid and has no morale meaning behind them

Just read a booklet watching the identical publication that has been converted to that movie. You can find details in a written booklet that people neglect observing a movie. We do not have the sense of color or smell that our minds can create.

"Acheron" by Sherrilyn Kenyon does, and it's actually well done, at least in my opinion. You don't have to know the rest of the series to understand what's going on - actually, it's where I started, and it made me want to read the rest. Some of her "modern" names and characters are a bit stranger, but this particular book really grabbed me.
