Who else thinks L.A Noire is overrated?! It can't be just me!?
I guess I thought that since it was a Rockstar game it would be similar to GTA and Red Dead Redemption, but I find it alot more repetitive, tedious and boring.
All cases are the same: Someone's dead, look around their body for clues. Go somewhere and find more clues, question someone, question someone else, arrest them. Simple.
Also, you know every mission will be at best a foot chase; which you know will end in a fist fight, you shooting them or you firing a warning shot. A car chase; which will either end by you driving into the side of them or them driving into a tree/building/vehicle. Or a small 1 v 1 gunfight which you win after two shots.
No weapons other than the pistol (and you can pick up a shotgun and like 2 machine guns for very short term use.... and later a flamethrower which lets you kill ONE guy), cars that all look exactly the same, a map too big and confusing actions/outburts by the supposedly good main charcater make it confusing.
Your actions outside of missions don't affect gameplay either. You can kill as many people as you want, steal as many cars as you want and destroy as much stuff as you want but it doesn't matter. I thought it might at least have something similar to the 'honor' system from RDR where it doesn't affect gameplay, but your actions will cause people to either love/hate you, so you may at least get some interesting new dialogue from the random street characters.
And on top of that, whilst in GTA and RDR you are a renegade - or a guy that has a troubled past but trying to do good, but in this, you're just a guy that was in the army, with a nice family just trying to make your way up the police force. The way it's made so that it vibrates when a clue is near almost makes it feel like you're controlling the detective rather than being the detective. There's also very little playability in the game after the campaign is finished. Overall, as you can tell I'm underwhelmed by the game. Everywhere I look, people are saying how incredible it is, but I think it's not. Maybe Rockstar set their standards too high with GTA and RDR, but I can't help but think that they could have made a MUCH better game.

I agree with the asker. Rockstar boasted so much about how great the facial animations are - yet they look appalling. The game just feels like a horrible detective movie, and it just holds no interest whatsoever.
Rockstar, I am disappoint.

The game isnt bad, it's just strictly mediocre. And Rockstar knows they can crank out any old piece of stale bread and be praised for it. I was stunned at how much pointless filler was in the game. Who the F would bother collecting cars, or film reels, or do any more than a few street crimes? They are all the same. And to top it off the story doesnt even really start UNTIL THE VICE DESK!. Making the entire first half of the game pointless filler, just like so much else. What a missfire.
It boggles my mind how rockstar doesnt have a clue how to tell a story, yet the voice acting is actually quite good. If this was an indie game on steam worth $20, I would say hey it has potential and let's see what they do in the future. But nope, it's not happening. I paid $7 on a sale and spent less than a week on it. I finished all 21 cases and it was boring all the way through. You're better off playing Phoenix Wright if you like detective games.

It's a detective story. You investigate crime scenes. You question witnesses and interrogate suspects. That's what detectives do. It's not supposed to be like GTA or Red Dead. It is an entirely different type of game.
P.S. If you don't like the controller vibrating whenever you're near a clue, then go to the settings menu and turn it off.

its not overrated, ur just one of those ppl that expect too much from a game when u hear all the hype. Advice: never follow the hype, never get ur hopes up, always get a game or a movie thinking its going to be shyt, then it will always be better than u where thinking, lol, overrated is CoD n Halo (good but way overrated).
but yeh, its a good game, just not all that, it used to be overrated before release but not so much anymore as i dnt really hear/see the hype anymore, lol.
