Video / graphic card question?

I am looking to buy a video / graphic card for the first time.

I noticed that it would say that the memory would be DDR3.

Does this mean that the memory on the mother board has to be a DDR3 also or does it mean that the video / graphic card board has the DDR3 incorporated and the pc motherboard could have any type of memory?

Is there anything else I have to look out for ?

Thank you.

The graphic card memory ha nothing to do with the rest of the system. you can have gddr5 video with ddr1 ram. Also pci-e x16 2.1 etc, doesnt matter either, they are backwards compatible and almost no difference in the revisions anyway.

So really, ANY pci-e x16 graphics card will work in ANY pci-e x16 slot. Just make sure the card will fit in your case, and your psu is enough to power the card. (and has the proper pci-e power connectors if the card requires it).

Also, contrary to VERY popular belief, video memory capacity has little to do with performance. so dont buy the card because it has 1gb or w/e video memory.

The video card's memory does not have to be the same as the Ram memory.

They are completely independent from one another .
