How much does it cost to fix a sound card that is connected to the motherboard?
I'm not really sure if my sound card is connected to the motherboard but I think it is.
When I put my cursor over the audio icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen it says
"No Audio Output is installed."
I've tried all the methods to fix so please don't tell me to re-install my audio or go to the control panel
My laptop is an HP Pavillion dv9000
and it runs on Vista
everything works fine except for the audio
I also tried to download the latest audio driver but it either won't work, or I get blue screen

Ya what the previous guy said was correct. Its better to check your drivers.
What you need todo is go online and search for the model of your computer on the companys website.
Say you bought it from HP go to HP's website and search for your computer model, and click on drivers and download. Then download the drivers for your soundcard.
If a company didn't make it, you can go to lifehacker.com and search for drivers. There are alot of free driver programs listed on that sight. Choose update drivers and it will tell you which drivers to get.
Usually most computers will not have a seperate soundcard it is part of the motherbaord. In that case the entire motherboard will need to be replaced.
Seperate soundcards are usually with people who create or edit music for a living

Well, it's kind of impossible to know without any details. What machine, what motherboard, what operating system?
The audio circuits are directly on the motherboard in most cases, so fixing, if they are truly broken, means replacing the whole motherboard for anywhere from $60 to $300 plus labor. It would be cheaper to just get a PCI or PCI-e or USB sound card for $15 - $40.
I promise not to tell you to go and download the latest audio drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website because you have already tried all methods.

Windows is not recognizing your integrated sound card because your driver is possibly corrupt or missing.
Go to the motherboard's manufacturer's web site and download and install the driver for the integrated sound card.
You don't need to change the sound card if you install the latest driver version for it.

A lot, better off getting a new mainboard or an add on soundcard, however, i suspect you need drivers or some sort of software fix, as in my experience i never seen a integrated sound card go bad.
