My CD/DVD drive is not working!?

I have a Toshiba Satellite L355 running Windows Vista Basic and I was watching DVDs all day now all of the sudden it won't work it wont open (unless I use a paperclip manually) It doesn't even recognise the discs when I put it in (CD, DVD, CDROM, any disc) it doesn't even spin and it causes everything to "not respond" when I put a disc in nothing will "respond" my word processor, media player, anything... It freezes up and says "not responding"... I'd call Toshiba but they charge to help you, even if bought THEIR product!! Please I'm desperate...

Update:

**Thanks LS, I tried that over and over to no avail**

Clean it, vacuum it or use some compressed air to shoot out dust, or, as the Dell tech told me, turn it off, flip it over, remove the battery and blow the dust out of the DVD drive.

    Also, let it cool off.

    Try again.

    Good luck.
