How long does it take to travel from Matsumoto to Tokyo?

By both car AND bullet train.

I'm estimating two hours by car, 30 minutes by train?

Thank you.

If you're really eager to take the bullet train for the experience, then you can take a limited express train from Matsumoto to Nagano, and then take the Asama shinkansen to Tokyo. And yes, riding time total is about 2.5 hours, and costs about 5000 yen. Otherwise, you can take a limited express Super Azusa train from Matsumoto to Shinjuku for about 3900 yen and the same time, about 2.5 hours.

Driving varies widely depending on the time - rush hour in Tokyo is like a moving parking lot. If you want

to be sure, take the train which is more reliable and punctual.

There is no bullet train between Tokyo and Matsumoto. But there are some trains. You take limited express Azusa and it takes 3 hours.

I think it will take the same or more by car.

3 hours by car when you account traffic and there is no bullet train that runs to Matsumoto.
