Is it fair to compare Joey Logano and Trevor Bayne's debuts and first Daytona 500's?

Question

Trevor had more Nationwide starts and was older.  Joey was 18 with 12 Nationwide starts when he started Cup racin'.   He was 18 yet at his first Daytona 500.  Trevor was 19 at his debut and 20 (barely, though) at his first Daytona 500.  He had more than 30 Nationwide starts, likely, before his Cup debut.  Their debut finishes were 32(Joey) and 17(Trevor) and their first Daytona 500's were 43 (Joey crashed) and 1(shock, INCREDIBLE!).

Its not really fair to compare drivers in the Daytona 500. As a restrictor plate event, anything can and will happen there. Joey Logano got wrecked by Greg Biffle early on in his 500 debut and finished last, while Trevor Bayne managed to avoid accidents and pretty much was handed a gift when David Ragan jumped the second to last restart.

Restrictor plate races are not wins. Just because they won Daytona means nothing. Logano is an overrated joke who will not last much longer in Nascar and Trevor Bayne as well. Besides Daytona Bayne has hit the wall/wrecked every single race. He is a danger to the others on the track. Logano doesn't wreck every race but he does not run up front, he is more of a mediocre driver in GREAT equipment. Both of these guys are very very overrated especially with a pointless restrictor plate win.

Well not really. Joey was supposed to be the next big hit in Cup and he's slowly and very steadily getting better. Trevor honestly hasn't shown much else in Cup other than the 500 win. I love plate tracks but they also have it where almost anybody could win so that makes it mean even more when not only can just 20 cars win it but any of the 43.

I have a strong feeling that Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will have a better Cup career than Trevor or even Joey.

Not really fair to ever compare two drivers in one race. It never tells the whole story. Right now Logano is having a decent Cup series career while Trevor Bayne hasn't been able to race for medical reasons, so comparisons are a bit useless.

Plate racing proves nothing about anything.  I completely disregard them in my analysis of anything concerning Nascar.  I was excited to see that 21 car win the 500.  But it didn't change my opinion at all of the 21 team or Trevor Bayne.
