Err, Pokemon : Red ROM for DS lite?

Okay, so I've been thinking of getting Pokemon:Red, and some people have been telling me to get roms. Being the dork I am, I have no idea what a ROM is or how to use it :C I don't have an emulator, I have the ROM and everything, but what exactly do you do to play it on the ds lite? Any help appreciated, and if I have the wrong idea, please tell me! C:

    to play the rom of fire red you need a flashcart

    i suggest buying a gba flash cart and it can store alot of games too

    i think to play that game you have to have visual boy advance gba rom
