Custom ball fitting, is it worth the effort?

I have a coupon for a custom ball fitting at the PGA store. All it will cost is the gas to get there and the time I spend doing it. But, I am wondering if anyone has done this and did it help your game? I have only been golfing 4 years and still trying to get better.

I've never had a custom ball fitting, but my guess is that if its free with no obligation, its probably worth it.

i noticed that when I switched from using random balls that I found in the woods or bought used, to using the same ball all the time, I got much more consistent. Then I upgraded from using the same cheap ball all the time to using higher quality balls, and I noticed an improvement right away. So I would say that having the right ball for your swing type/speed can make a big difference.

Also, I know that custom club fitting makes a big difference.

There are so many little variables like spin rate, launch angle, etc, that are hard to fine tune by just hitting 100 balls at the driving range, so getting fitted by a professional with the proper computer equipment can make a big difference. I say go for it.

I think you can go too deep into this. Fitting clubs to you is one thing, but fitting a ball to you? Maybe. I'm 53 and probably have a medium swing speed. It will probably slow down further as I age. I'm now using low compression balls that are supposed to be good for golfers with slower swing speeds. I've used all brands, but don't notice much of a difference between brands. Certainly golf pros would want to use a ball that is exactly fitted to their game.

    Good luck with golf.

I never and have never been taught to do so. Depending on your size just get a small, medium, or large golf ball sizes. Don't try it... only if your a pro I would consider doing it.
