I don't understand what logarithms are, what the y mean, or how to use them. Can someone please clarify?

Logarithm is the number the which the base must be raised in order to represent a particular number
Like
To make 10 ------> 100
We would raise 10 to the power of 2
i.e (10)²
In Language of logarithm
We say
Log 10 100 = 2
This means to make 10 ---> 100 ---> (10)² i.e raise it to power of Two --> 2
So value of logarithm is actually an exponent.
