As a previous answerer states The Invention of Lying is a very good movie if you want to see religion for what it really is. It clearly states in the bible that we're "allowed" to eat animals. Everything in the bible is supposedly gods will so go right ahead and chow down on a furry creature if you like. Don't worry, you'll still go to heaven.

God, if you believe in an omnipotent overlord, gave human beings Free Will. We can reason and choose what we wish to do, and many choose to eat other animals.

Without Free Will, everything we do would be preordained and it wouldn't matter what we did, as we would have no control over our lives: God would have decided everything beforehand.

"God" is merciless. I personally don't believe in any form of "God" but if he did exist I'd say he's merciless. Good overpowers evil, therefore "God" would prevent anything "Satan" would attempt to do, therefore there would be no animal cruelty, no starving, no poverty, no war.

    To quote House:

"Either God doesn't exist, or he's unimagineably cruel"

Questions like this are usually asked by vegetarians who are completely oblivious that cooking kills plants and that everything we eat has to die for us to survive. That's life for you.
