Vista has 12 gigs of .dll files on my laptop, why?

Hi All

my laptop (used for general internet browsing, spreadsheets and web based email) for some reason has 12 gigs of DLL files (used "windirstat" to list file size and type), 19,000+ files - that cant be right, the hard drive is only 60 gigs.that's 20% of the whole hard drive space.

3 year old laptop

Vista 32

60 gig hd

2gig ram

Zone alarm

AVG

firefox

ccleaner

i clear temp files regularly, and don't download crap, if i am not using a program i uninstall properly, i generally look after this comp quite well

is there anyway these can be cleaned up safely as i know deleting dll files can screw your system,

any advice would be appreciated

thanks

Update:

thanks peeps, ill leave them alone, i understand dlls are system files, but is 12 gigs not excessive?

do not ever touch .dll files unless you know what you are doing.. windows has thousands of files and they are all necessary

unless you want to lose your operating system, dont touch what you dont understand.

    EDIT

    ----------------------------------------

no, 12GB is not excessive considering windows as a whole takes up around 16GB ( 20GB for 64bit ) and windows is mostly .dll files

Do you use the Registry component of CCleaner? That will tell you if there are unnecessary files in your registry which is where dll files are stored
