Fish dying from time to time?
My fish are dropping dead from time to time. We have a tropical tank with about 10 fish in at the moment and about once a month a fish dies. There is no pattern to it or anything they are often different species. And not obviously the weakest fish for example. As the latest victim was the only male of a species. There is not obviously anything wrong with the tank.
When living with my parents and we had gold fish and when they died it tended to be a mass extinction were all of them died within a week or so. Not just 1 a month.
Any ideas as to what maybe causing it? As far as we know they are getting enough food and the water is clean.
To the best of my knowledge the temperature is stable. The heater is on at all times. And yes the there is a pump and its also always running.

You could see if your pet centre will test a water sample for you to see if anything is wrong with the water quality. Presumably the temperature is right, there is enough aeration & filtration & you're not using untreated tap water when you do a partial water change? Have you checked them carefully for signs of disease? They don't always get wiped out all at once.

If you have any bottom fish, as I call them (The kind of fish that swim near the bottom, hide under rocks, usually catfish sorta things) make sure you are using pellet food aswell as flake food. My friend had a similar problem and didnt realise that it was all her bottom fish who were dying, because she only used flake food which they couldn't reach and didnt fit their food needs. This is just an example, so if you dont have any bottom fish, see if any of your species require a different type of food. I have had fish for a while and sometimes I have had to use about four different types of food to feed no more than 12 fish!
Google research your fish to see if they have special dietary requirements. I hope this was some help!

try adding a tablespoon of aquarium salt and 5ml of tap water safe if you have done this already try once a week a water change ( only 25% ) and see how they get on :) If the problem is still there ask you pet store . test your water weekly and clean filter every 2 weeks . can i ask what species of fish they are??

What fish are they? What size tank is it? What are the water chemistry readings (ammonia, nitrate and nitrite)?
Without knowing more details it's impossible to say! It could be poor quality fish, it could be poor quality water.
